Celebrating the life of
John Joseph McMasters
May 09, 1953 - January 03, 2025
John McMasters, a man who brought warmth and kindness to everyone he met, passed away peacefully in his Savannah home on January 3, 2025, surrounded by those he loved most. Born on May 9, 1953, in Los Angeles, California, John lived a life as vibrant as the ocean waves he cherished.
John spent his early years surfing the California coast, chasing the perfect wave and embracing the spirit of adventure. He was deeply devoted to his local community, dedicating much of his time to political advocacy and making a difference in the lives of those around him. With his easy charm and boundless curiosity, John had a rare gift for turning strangers into lifelong friends.
John is survived by his beloved son, Taylor, the light of his life; his dear friend Maria; and the mother of his son, Monica McMasters. His love for them was unwavering, and they were the anchor of his world.
While we mourn his loss, we take comfort in imagining John now enjoying an endless summer of big swells and a never-empty glass of chocolate milk—a paradise he undoubtedly deserves.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life during a visitation at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors on Tuesday, January 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. A service will follow on Wednesday, January 8, at 11 a.m., also at Fox & Weeks.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Cancer Society in his honor.
John McMasters, a champion for what's right. John will be long remembered as the man who fought for the under dog. No matter the race or ethnic background. If John believed in you, if he could help you if he could shed light on any given subject he would. My friend you will be missed by so many. When Savannah Chatham County thinks about recycling they will always remember John McMasters. To his beloved son Taylor, a job well done i. Taking care of your dad. You put your life on hold for your father who loved you more than life itself. To all other family members and friends, John knew how much you loved him. Rest in peace my friend. Regina Thomas
